Warm contrast film and warm vivid film push saturation and contrast into travel-photography territory. Nature light reads as genuine daylight. B&W film takes the identical frame straight into vintage monochrome.
Why this is the most consequential of the seven: in an image-to-video workflow, the still is the foundation. Whatever grade you pick at this stage propagates into every video generated from that frame. A single dropdown, chosen once, decides the colour identity of everything downstream. They also output at a fixed, low resolution. A well-written prompt beats them comfortably.
What they’re actually for is range-finding. You can throw six wildly different energies at the same character in the time it takes to write one prompt, decide which direction has legs, then go build it properly. Treat presets as a sketchpad, not a delivery format. Anyone shipping preset output as finished work is the reason the “AI slop” complaint has teeth.
3. Topaz video upscale
Under Video → Video Upscale, selecting the Topaz model and pushing quality to 4K fixes the resolution ceiling the presets impose. Upscaling touches nothing else: not motion, not colour, not composition. It bumps resolution and nothing more. The change is subtle on a phone and obvious on a large display, which is precisely where thin AI output usually falls apart.
This is a boring setting. Turn it on anyway. It costs one pass and it is the single cheapest quality gain available.
4. Virality Predictor
Buried in the Apps tab, this analyses a finished video and returns a score out of 100 alongside breakdowns labelled visual cortex, attention control, focus drift, and language network. It is the most interesting feature and the one I trust least — and I want to be precise about why.
Run real footage through it and the scores stay low. A polished, upscaled paparazzi clip scored 44. A puppy video scored 51. A genuinely good bike video pulled from Instagram — the kind that actually performs — also scored poorly. The pattern is that nothing scores well, including content that demonstrably works in the wild.
You can read that two ways. The generous reading is that the tool is calibrated to always surface something improvable, which is defensible as a critique engine. The sceptical reading is that a predictor which never issues a passing grade isn’t predicting anything — it’s generating anxiety with a number attached, and anxiety is a well-known driver of re-generation, which costs credits.
Use the sub-scores. Attention control and focus drift do point at real structural weaknesses in a hook. Ignore the headline number entirely. A metric that never says “this is fine” is not a metric.
The rule: any scoring tool that never returns a good score is a critique engine wearing a scoreboard costume. Read its components. Discard its verdict.
5. Genre
The first of three “director dials,” all of which live in video mode and all of which are off by default. Genre sets mood and pacing at a structural level. - Lock a control frame. One image, one prompt, one aspect ratio. Never change more than one variable at a time.
- Sweep each dropdown against that fixed frame. Generate the same shot across every style, every genre, every camera move. This is tedious and it is the entire job.
- Record the deltas somewhere permanent. A plain text file is fine. You will not remember which combination worked in three weeks.
- Commit to a house look. Pick one grade, one genre, one camera style, and use them by default across a project. Consistency reads as intent. Variety reads as indecision.
- Only then start producing.
